Scotland...

I have never travelled :( But I would love to do. When I finish my studies and I start working, the first thing that I'm going to do is to travel around the world. 

I want to know many places, including north and south of Chile. But in first place, I would go to Scotland. I don’t know much about this country, but I have seen pictures of wonderful places of Scotland.

Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and occupying the northern third of the island of Great Britain. This country has only five millions of people.  I like that!

When I go to Scotland I go to visit castles of this country. Some castles of Scotland are Doune’s Castle, Drummond’s Castle, Eilean Donan’s Castle and Glamis Castle. These places are very old. For example, Glamis Castle has more of 600 years of history. It’s very old and wonderful!!!

For that reasons I would like to live in Scotland, at least for a while. 

And I hope to have money to do. 

A special Christmas

Christmas day is annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus. It’s celebrated around the world by millions of people on December 25.

The Western Christian Church was the first to establish Christmas on December 25. Then this date was adopted in the east. Since then people in all world commemorates the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. But today the real meaning of Christmas is very different than before. Today the most important in Christmas are gifts. 

I celebrate Christmas with my family. We eat a delicious dinner and then, to 12 o’clock, we deliver some gifts. Then my uncles, aunts and cousins come to my home and we exchanged gifts, again!

I think that Christmas was more fun before, when my sister and me were childrens. Now I don’t like this celebration. I think that the most important is to be with family and friends.

Do you like watch TV serials?

When I have a free time I always watch some TV serials. I really like to watch TV series because I enjoy them, especially when I’m tired and I don’t want to study.

I think that TV series allow people to do something fun after work or during the weekend. For that reason I think people like them.

The best TV series that I’ve ever seen has been “Lost”.  Lost is an American TV series that was created by Jeffrey Lieber, J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. This TV series is a drama series that follows the life of various individuals and groups of people, mainly the survivors of a commercial passenger jet crash (Oceanic 815) that was flying between Sydney and Los Angeles over a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean.

Lost has six seasons. The First season was opened in 2004 and the last season in 2010. I think that the fourth season was the best. And the final one was great too, I cried along all the chapter. Also, I really like its music.

Now, I watch different TV serials, for example “The Big Bang Theory”, “Friends” and “Criminal Minds”, but my favorite is “Modern Family”. It’s very funny.

I always watch TV serials, everyday, especially when I have free time.

My laptop

My favorite piece of technology is my laptop.

Two years ago my mother bought a laptop for me. It was necessary because my old computer was very bad and I needed to do my university work, so I didn’t have another option.

I use my laptop for different activities. Sometimes I watch movies and TV serials on internet (I recommend you cuevana.tv). Also, I download and listen to music in my laptop.

Apart from this, I use my laptop to play different games. I have PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) 2011, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Bross and other amusing games. For some games I need to use a special control that I connect to my laptop and play comfortably.

Other reason why I use my laptop is that in it I can do my activities for the university. Also, on internet I can assignments to my teachers and to my partners.

Finally, with my laptop I can talk to my friends, if I have internet.

I began to use my laptop only two years ago. But before I used a computer, my old computer, since I was 16 years old. That computer still works, but it is very slow, so I can`t see movies or play because it does not have much memory.

So I conclude that my laptop is my favorite piece of technology because thanks to it I have internet. For that reasons I like it.

My life without my laptop would be terrible. Because I couldn’t do my works, read and write my mail, download music and movies and all things that I now do.

Music, society and me

Why music is important to society?

Every day we see people listening to music, in the bus, in the street...everywhere!

Also, each time concerts are more frequent.

Music is important to society because it's an element of identity. Every country has a national song and a typical dance. But also, people identify with a type of music.

Music has been present in all society at all times. And through it we can to know the culture of a society, its political problems, economic field and other things such as the people's ideas.

We listen to music, and people in general, because we identify with the song lyrics and because we like melodies and rhythms. With music we can remember different moments of life and also express emotions.

I don´t have a favorite type of music. But I really like rock and pop. I love to listen to Queen, The Beatles, Los Bunkers, Soda Stereo, Megadeth, Chancho en Piedra and others. In this moment I'm listening to "La Renga", a very good group of Argentina!!  I always listen to music, in the bus, in the street, when I clean my house and when I'm with my friends. 

I really like listening to music! Because I enjoy it. In internet there are several websites to listen music. But, usually I listen to music on the radio. My favorite websites are futuro.cl and sonar.cl

I think that most music today is not good. It's disposable music, especially reggaeton. So please don't listen to that music.

The person that I admire is...

I admire a teacher of the university. His name is Octavio Avendaño. He studied sociology in the University of Chile. He graduated in sociology and later in comparative politics in the University of Florencia, in Italy. He’s  a good teacher and he motivates me to study sociology.

Avendaño is teacher of sociological theory and an elective called “Comparative Politics Sociology”. Both are great signatures, but the elective is more interesting because students learn new things, for example you learn about neo-populism in Latin America, authoritarian regimes in Brasil, Argentina, Chile, democracies, and others interesting topics like authoritarianism in Eastern Europe. That was very interesting. So, I recommend to my partners to take this good elective. Also, the comparation is a good method for social sciences, especially for sociology.  

In sociological theory Avendaño talk about three classical sociologist: Emile Durkheim, Max Weber and Karl Marx.

His tests are very long because it last aproximately three hours. If is necesary he does test on Saturday’s morning. That`s terrible! But when you end the test you can go to your house and to sleep all afternoon.

My favorite film

In my second post I'm going to talk about movies. People like movies because they are great. Films have different stories, different characters and are very entertaining.
There are different genre of movies, for example there are horror movies, comedies, thrillers, love movies, children's films, fantasy films, historical films and many others.
People come out of the routine when they see movies and feel different emotions.

My favorite movie is "Big Fish". It is a fantasy adventure film, based on a 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace. The film was directed by Tim Burton and the main actors are Albert Finney, Ewan McGregor, Billy Crudup, and Jessica Lange.
"Big Fish" is the story of Edward Bloom, a very special man that has an amazing ability to tell events from his life but with details that transcend the boundaries of reality.
Will Bloom's son, does not understand why his father exaggerated stories and gets angry with him. Will is reunited with his father because he is dying. He's looking for the truth of the events in the life of his father. At the end he found a big surprise. We all found a big surprise. :)

Sandra K. Bloom, Edward's wife, Will, Edward's son, Amos Calloway, a circus ringmaster, Karl the Giant, Dr. Bennett, The family doctor, and others are characters that are present in Edward´s fantastic life.

The film is wonderful because it combines fantasy, adventure and reality, and invites us to live life differently.

Big Fish is a great movie to watch this weekend!

My first blog

Hi! My name is Daniela. I'm 22 years old. I'm a student of sociology at the University of Chile and I'm in fourth year. I'm from Santiago, specifically  from Calera de Tango. I love that city because it is a quiet place and there aren't buildings. I have three pets: a dog and two guinea pigs.
I like to watch tv' series and also I like to read comics, novels and horror' stories.

This is my blog and I called it "happy weekend" because I will write on Friday in the morning and I will talk about different things that  people can to do on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before to star a new week.

I'm learming English and I hope that this blog help me with this.
